It’s sunday morning and I am sitting in Steffen’s room in Cologne. It’s not just any sunday morning but it is carnival here in Cologne which has already taken its first casualties who lie just behind me xD Carnival in Cologne is really “cool” and I am not only talking about the weather. But I am not writing this post because I want to tell you about Carnival but because I have been using MacBooks and “Mac OSX” for one year now and I want to sum up my experiences.
MacBook /MacBook Pro:
MacBook Pro
Well, I think there are already enough reviews about MacBooks so I just want to say that the MacBook Pro really is awesome and fits my needs better than the normal MacBook and my sister is perfectly happy with my “old” MacBook^^ I really love the FireWire port and the backlit keyboard and of course the 4GB RAM. The better battery will be great for working at university but right now I do not really need it but it is cool to have it. The SD-Card Reader is really nice too because now I can put the SD-Cards from my DSLR right into my MacBook Pro without an extra card reader.
The only thing I do not like is that those displayport-to-vga/dvi adapters are way too expensive especially for those using 2 extra monitors.
Mac OS X:
I hope that I’ll never have to go back to Windows! OS X just works like it is supposed to do without making any problems. I do not have to care about security at least at the moment but I am aware that this could change with Apple and OS X becoming more and more popular. I really like how easy it is to work with OS X and the only thing I am missing is that I cannot play all the games I used to play natively, on OS X. But as long as Blizzard publishes its games for Mac as well I can still play my favorite games and that’s all I need.
iPhone:
iPhone 3GS
A lot of people say that nobody needs an iPhone and that there are many better phones but I can just say: “I don’t care what they think!!!”. I love my iPhone and for me it is the best phone I’ve ever had. Since I have my iPhone, I can leave my iPod Touch at home because now the iPhone does everything I used my iPod for. That means I have to carry one devices less with me without having to change my habits or do a lot of configurating as I could just transfer all my data from my iPod to my iPhone. Since Google now supports Exchange, I do not even have to connect my iPhone to my MacBook Pro to sync my calenders. I really like how my MacBook Pro and my iPhone work together and I think this will be a great help at university. Well and of course it’s just cool to always have internet.
Last but not least: my new Wacom Intuos 4 small

When I first used a Wacom tablet, I was still using Windows and it was just a pain in the ass^^ When I read that there are new Wacom Bamboos with finger gestures I just thought I need one!!! Long story short - in the end I bought an Intuos 4 and I have no regrets. It does not have the finger gestures but I am not missing them. The tablet works great with OS X and I can’t imagine how I could work with photoshop without the tablet. It just speeds up my workflow and lets me work more precisely. Everyone who edits photos should get one.

I am on Facebook now. You can find me here. Isn’t that great… Don’t know if I like it yet… Well Facebook and I didn’t have a good start as one of their developers had the great idea to limit the number of words one can use in his name. The consequence is that I could not register with my full name, which pissed me off. Ok I thought maybe I can change it later but so far I didn’t find a possibility to change one’s name and I could not find an adress where I could write to and ask them to change it. Actually I cannot say that I like their design of the page but perhabs I am just too tired to find the things I am looking for.

Today I took my first shots of the moon. Well I couldn’t have done it earlier as I had no tripod but as I could borrow one from a friend (thx Steffen xD) today, I used the opportunity and went out in the garden as it got dark.
The Result:
Unfortunately 300mm on a crop cam (480FF) are not enough to get a big picture of the moon. So those 100% Crops were all I could get.

It’s almost over. By now most of my classmates already wrote all of their exams and are enjoying their well deserved holidays. Only the few who write English still have one exam left until everything is over (well at least until the oral exams). At 2 o’clock we’ll celebrate with Barbecue and alcohol. Hopefully, the weather will be as good as today so that we can really enjoy the little party. Tomorrow evening most of us will go to the “Music Park” a.k.a “A5″ and will celebrate with other schools’ students.
Well I still have some stuff to learn until tomorrow but unlike before maths I am not that nervous right now and I think it cannot become to difficult as 2/3 of the mark are language and style and only 1/3 content. As we are not allowed to use the books and texts we read in class, the questions cannot be that detailed and as it is not defined which books we have to read the questions have to be very open so that everybody can answer them without having read a specific book.
So now I really have to continue with studying because I don’t want to miss the next episode of “Life” at 20:15h (I know … How can you just sit there and watch TV the night before your exam… well relaxing is part of my preparation (as well as my everyday life xD)) Ok that was my last writing exercise before my English exam and I think it went quite well. I hope I will not make too much mistakes tomorrow and have a good writing style so that 2/3 of my mark are save

since my last post but I just had no time to write about anything… Well there actually did not happen anything worth to mention as I spent most of my time studying for my exams ( I still had no time to go out and take some outdoor shots with our new cam… damn “Abitur”). So today was my first exam (German) and it was not as bad as expected. It could have been worse. My next exam is on Friday, so I will not have time for anything else than studying until then (school can really be annoying but at least it is my last year). I am really looking forward to the 2nd of April when my last Exam (English) will take place and I will finally have holidays, as far as I can call them holidays as I will have to work on my biology assignment (and again school sucks… letting me drop biology for half a year and then tell me that I would have needed it and that I have to take it again and do a replacement work for my missing mark…). But I will definitely spend some of my time outdoors taking some shots, well I actually have to because I still need some practice for my sister’s confirmation in May.

I have been using my MacBook now since two weeks and I am finally able to write about my first impressions.
It’s awesome! The new unibody case looks great and it is really of amazing quality. The touchpad is the best I’ve ever seen and cannot be compared to any other notebook’s touchpad besides the one of the new MacBook Pro of course The finger gestures are really easy to remember and great to use. My favorit one is the two finger scrolling.
Operating system:
It is amazing how fast I became used to OS X as I had been using Windows for lots of years. At first, it was a bit strange but that feeling did not last long and now I would never want to go back to using Windows as long as I can avoid it. It’s fast and stable at least most of the time (I had 2 crashes at the very beginning xD) and it just makes more fun to work with it as with Windows. There are already many things I would not want to miss anymore like Spotlight, the Dock and many other small things that make my life easier.
Software:
My MacBook came with a lot of software preinstalled which really satisfy my needs. Adressbook, iCal, iTunes, Mail all this programs work great. I love the fact that my Ipod Touch works great together with my MacBook. It’s so easy to sync contacts, appointments and music between the two devices and now my Ipod is always up-to-date which is great as I have it with me all the time (I wish I had MobileMe so that I could sync everything with out having to plug in my usb-cable). The new iLife looks great too but I haven’t really tried it out yet. iChat is real fun. Video-conferences with two or three other people are just great and the quality of the iSight cam and the build in microphone is really good.
Conclusion:
Even though MacBooks are more expensive than other Notebooks, they are worth every cent you pay for them (which does not change the fact that I wish they were cheaper xD). It really has to happen a catastrophe that I would consider buying PC ever again.

After waiting so long to get a good prize it happened that we wouldn’t get the 20% off on Apple products… So I was wasting a lot of time for nothing. As I didn’t want to wait any longer I immediately ordered one at amazon.de when I got the information but as I had to pay the full prize I bought the small one without the keyboard backlight.
This morning at 11:51 am it was delivered and now I am finally an Mac-User!!! I still haven’t tried everything out yet and it still feels a bit weird to use mac os x but I think that will change soon. Well I am a bit short in time as I am going to a “Karnevals Sitzung” tonight so I will post some pics of the Macbook tomorrow (with our new DSLR!) and perhabs a little review about how I like Leopard etc…

that’s how I feel right now suffering under a cold and not allowed to go to school (damn xD). The problem is not only the cold but my hurting ear. I can’t really concentrate well so learning and stuff for school is quite impossible… but as I can’t sleep any longer I wanted to post at least some news about our new cam.
It is awesome!!! It cannot be compared to that shitty Medion cam and it makes a lot of fun to take photos with it. So as I did not feel any pain in my ears yesterday, I was at least able to take some testshots and as my little cousins almost freaked out when I tried some lightwriting with my brother they insisted on doing some two. Well it was fun although it was hard to get them to do what I wanted xD I hate the fact that I get cool new stuff to play around with I actually have no time for it (damn “Abitur”).
